The iconic Entrecôte takes a nod from the very original Le Relais De L'Entrecôte - the famous one-dish Steakhouse that opened in 1959 in Porte-Maillot, Paris. Overlooking the beautiful Melbourne Botanic Gardens in the Grand Old Dame that once housed the institutional Lynch's Restaurant for over 30 years, Entrecôte has long been a stalwart in Melbourne’s hospitality scene.

While expertly adapting the restaurant offer to align with the pandemic restrictions, restauranteur Jason M Jones seized the opportunity to breathe new life into the restaurant interior. Partner and designer Brahman Perera developed a narrative around the conviviality and delight of French dining, balancing the restaurant’s signature eclecticism with a daring and inventive spirit.

Brilliant colour, fine detail and contemporary art mix with stately, old-world charm. Walls are boldly banded in shades of white and emerald green, establishing an enlivened, French conservatory style. Perera’s own hand-painted fabric design is employed as tablecloths and a floral frieze datum on the walls, giving an artistic overlay that plays against the traditional French toile lining the bay windows.

Perera skilfully crafted a striking plaster pendant and tulip-shaped floor lamp; armatures of steel are encased in wire to give a sculpted form, then finished with hand-applied plaster. Personal touches, including a tiered-glass chandelier, hand-glazed plates and a collection of brass embellishments, give subtle detail and wit, crafting a welcoming experience and a finely curated place of hospitality, serenity and celebration.
