With a rich brand history spanning over 30 years, Tsar carpets is now globally recognised for their high-end, bespoke flooring textiles. Thoughtful design and expert technique are at the heart of each Tsar collection. The latest textures, created by Tsar’s in-house designer Charlotte McGeehan, were an exploration into the natural forms of the Icelandic countryside and traditional weaving techniques of their female artisans. The resulting designs are geographical and grounding, paired with the luxury and durability that Tsar is renowned for.
“The Sierra Collection was first and foremost inspired by Iceland’s historic and impressive female-led weaving industry and the natural beauty of the country’s stark and craggy landscape. That investigation further spurred interest in bringing to life additional rugged and arid landscapes worldwide — from California’s Coachella Valley to the rugged cliffs of the Shire at Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne,” says Charlotte McGeehan, a trained weaver and TSAR’s in-house designer. “The ultimate goal of the collection is to ground the end user, while providing a high-performing and luxuriously comfortable experience underfoot.”
In bringing the collection’s launch to life, TSAR partnered with Italian image production studio Nova Visualis (@novavisualis) to create a series of digital vignettes that reflect the collection’s terrene ethos and intended end use. Nova Visualis, known for their creative direction and technical precision, designed five dynamic renders that imagine the collection in current hospitality and residential environments. The end result is an atmosphere that evokes a transportive and serene experience.
TSAR’s new bespoke collection is perfectly suited to a broad range of projects from high-end residential to hospitality and commercial fit outs. Proudly Australian-owned with a global outlook, you can find TSAR’s flagship showroom in Melbourne, along with design studios and offices in Sydney, New York, Shanghai, and now London.
The collection is available in the following five patterns in various colorways:
Weathered - A hand-rendered painting featuring sweeping brush strokes translated into a Jacquard woven fabric. The design uses tonal colours to create texture and movement that is reminiscent of a glacial surface.
Loam - A pattern based on a distorted honeycomb and woven technique, digitally overlaid with imagery of the cliff faces on the Mornington Peninsula. Featuring a heavy puckering and a textural appearance, the pattern is softened by use of neutral colours.
Parco - Based on a table loom weaving, the pattern incorporates hand-painted dye to create a faded appearance. The pattern is digitally enhanced with imagery of rocks from the designer’s travels.
Terra - Based on the “crazy paver” stone hard surfacing style commonly seen on the exterior of pool enclosures in Palm Springs, this pattern features digitally overlaid woven textures and evokes a sense of earthy richness.
Remnant - Inspired by the tiles found in Sorrento, Italy — contrasted by the region’s rugged and breathtaking seaside cliffs and raw minerals — Remnant recreates a verdant landscape that is translated into a mesmerizing flooring design.
